‘Borrow it Bindaas’ joins hands with SAYWE for a cause

Women from South Asian countries have been carving a niche for themselves around the world, be it in fashion, glamour, media or business. These ladies turn heads and get applauded for their work in different fields. One such organization that brings South Asian women entrepreneurs together to recognize their talent is SAYWE [South Asian Young Women Entrepreneurs].
Fashion week kicked off this week with SAY WE’s event, ‘Fashion for Compassion’,  where South Asian women designers were honored and their creations were displayed on the runway at the event September 12,2011. The proceeds of this event went to ‘Wishwas’ which is an organization aimed at financially empowering women in South Asian communities by providing them with the know-how to create their own successes. 
‘Borrow it Bindaas’ was proud to sponsor this magnificent event with a cause. In support of the charity, ‘Borrow it Bindaas’ donated a designer saree for the silent auction as well as beautiful Bangles exclusively for the VIP guests.
This year ‘Fashion for Compassion’ showcased eminent designers like Ranjana Khan, Pria Kataria Puri, Amrita Singh, Azeeza Desai Khan of Atelier Azza, Farzeen & Deeba of Rani Emaan. Jewelry Designer Ranjana Khan was honored for her work in fashion at this year’s event.

Ranjana Khan

Jewelry Designer Ranjana Khan started her jewelry label ‘Ranjana Khan’ in 2008. She might be the wife of well-known designer Naeem Khan, but that never deterred her to pursue her passion for fashion accessories. Ranjana started with Phoenix hand embroidery long before she entered the costume jewelry business. With her vast knowledge in embellishment, Ranjana has worked with renowned fashion houses like Jean-Paul Gaultier, Alber Elbaz, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen & Lanvin.
But she found her true calling in jewelry designing. This New Yorker who has Indian roots, made East meet the West with her creativity. She gave a new life to the Bib necklace and introduced lace in jewelry which was earlier limited to outfits only.  Her designs have been worn by famous women such as the First Lady Michelle Obama, actress Jennifer Lawrence and singer Beyonce. Her works regularly feature in magazine like Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire, Bazaar, People & W Magazine. Contemporary yet Classic, Ranjana Khan’s jewelry makes a fashion statement on every women.

Pria Kataaria Puri

Pria Kataaria Puri is one of the most sought after designers in India and now she is taking her label ‘Pria Kataria Puri’ worldwide. She has single handedly made ‘Kaftan’ a ‘must have’ in every women’s wardrobe. She started her label in 1990 and has dressed celebrities like Paris Hilton, Queen Rania of Jordan, Aishwarya Rai, Ivanka Trump to name few.
She shuttles between India, Kuwait and the US to balance work as well as family. Every year at fashion weeks, women look forward to see her latest offering and always return home with a big smile. Her collection is a mix of traditional with modern and stand out of the rest. Loads of bright lively colors, jewel tone prints & fine detail work are a reflection of her creativity in her collection. ‘Pria Kataaria Puri’ has become a synonym for ‘Timeless’ in Indian Couture.

Amrita Singh

Amrita Singh started her jewelry label in 2003 in New York and has successfully been able to expand her jewelry line to innovative collections. She has travelled extensively around the world and got back to her Indian roots to design her creative jewelry. She draws inspiration from the ‘Mughal Era’ which reflects in her beautiful creations. Amrita Singh has graduated from Fashion Institute of Technology – New York. She then went on to complete the prestigious two year executive training program at Bergdorf Goodman. She has also worked with world-renowned designers such as Oscar de la Renta and Christian Lacroix. Since then she has won many accolades in the field of designing and continues to inspire women of all ages, across the globe with her designs. Her designs are not just limited to jewelry but also to shoes, handbags, scarves and jewelry cases. Her Jewelry has been worn by celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway and Blake Lively.

Azeeza Desai Khan

Atelier AZZA’ is a New York-based label crafted by emerging designer Azeeza Desai Khan. Azeeza’s personal style– minimalist high street fused with high fashion– is embodied in her debut Monarch collection, which features urban embellishments paired with sophisticated silhouettes. She was born and raised in Chicago but draws influences from her Indian & Afghan heritage as well as European culture. She showcased her very first line of clothing at the SAYWE ‘Fashion for Compassion’ event.

Farzeen & Deeba

Farzeen and Deeba started out as good friends but their passion for designing resulted in their label ‘Rani Emaan’. The collections from Rani Emaan’s represent some of the finest and most exclusive designs and craftsmanship found in South Asia. The pieces show a beautiful and unique combination of fabrics, colors, embroideries in Silk, Beadwork,  Zardosi and semi-precious stone work. The collection has a range of Bridal wear, formal as well as semi-formals. ‘Rani Emaan’ caters to women who are on a look out for sophisticated and glamorous high-end designs. Their creations are not just displayed in their home country Pakistan but in USA as well.
