Emmy Awards 2011 – Fashion Round Up

Every year red carpet events like the Emmy Awards show  the best in fashion trends and style. Celebrities come dressed in the most fascinating gowns & jewels but only few make an impression on the red carpet.  Let’s take a look at what style trends were set by the fashionistas this year at the Emmy Awards and how we can use these trends with Indian Apparel and Accessories!

Solitary bright colors make a fashion statement

This trend one might have seen in black but bold colors worn as whole are big this season on the red carpet. One gets to experiment with so many other aspects of dressing like hairdo, accessories, footwear when the outfit is kept in one color. Actress Sofia Vergara, Archie Punjabi, and Lea Michele were among the few celebrities wearing an outfit of a single color while adding accessories like chandelier earrings, a sparkling clutch or a dazzling cuff. Less is definitely more for these ladies. Emphasize on jewel tones while you are selecting a single color of an outfit for parties or events.
Indian Style Decoded : Try on a saree in a single bold color, couple it with a brocade blouse or with detail work. Pair it with chandelier earrings or a statement neckpiece.  A silk saree always works best in a bold color as it gives the color a shine as well. You can also wear a salwar kameez or an anarkali in a bright hue with a strand of gemstones like Emerald, Rubies or Amethyst to make a fashion statement.

Lace still has it’s Grace

Through the 1940s till today,  Lace is one trend that has never gone out of the style and it is not just  limited to wedding gowns only. The red carpet at the Emmy Awards 2011 was a witness to lace gowns on celebrities’ right from Gwyneth Paltrow, Minka Kelly, to Jayma Mays. They have let the fabric take all the attention while keeping the accessories to the minimum. The clutches as well as the shoes have been kept under-stated in order to not take the focus off the lace outfit. Try to give emphasis on the waist with a satin belt or a bare mid riff in case of Gwyneth.
Indian Style Decoded: A lace saree is a classic way to channel your inner fashionista which are ideal to be worn to any cocktail party. Keep the blouse simple and the jewelry minimum to make a lace saree work

Sequins are a Girl’s new best friend

Diamonds undoubtedly will remain a girl’s best friend, but sequin studded gowns are making its way to being the favorite among celebrities whenever they need to look good on the red carpet. They might be the revival of  1980s trend but designers have successfully given it a new look by adding them on prints, as detail work or keeping them as whole. Seen at the Emmy Awards was actress Christina Hendricks, Claire Danes and Evan Rachel Wood wear sequin studded gowns.
Indian Style Decoded:  Traditional Lehengas and Wedding sarees have always been embellished with loads of sequin work. Try for a heavy sequin detail work lehenga and combine it with a under-stated choli  & dupatta. Let one embellished piece in your outfit take ‘center stage’ while keeping other add-ons like shoes, clutch and other accessories simple. Avoid wearing sequin from head to toe as too much of hotchpotch is a recipe for fashion disaster.
