Award ceremonies are big events but Cannes is definitely the biggest global event in this world where people from different countries come to present their best in movies and fashion. Trends are set, celebrities are made at this very red carpet. BIB takes a closer look at what trends were ‘in vogue’ this year.

‘Traditional’ is the way to go

This year at Cannes, one got to see a lot of celebs sashy the red carpet in outfits that are inspired from the legacy of their country. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan stepped out in a beautiful Abu Jani – Sandeep Khosla saree that had exquisite zardosi & chikan kari work all over. Other celebs also included Chinese actress Fan Bingbing who flaunted her looks in a gown in which the detail-work was inspired by painting motif from China.

Plunging Necklines

Plunging necklines are a demure way of showing off your curves but this trend definitely needs to be used smartly on the red carpet. A low neckline works better when you are not heavy on the top. Whereas showing off a bit of cleavage works well if you are blessed with ample asset.

Sexy Backs

Flaunting your back never looked this good on the red carpet with most of the celebrities opting for this fabulous trend.  Cover the back of your outfit with lace, strings or any style that you love, I am sure you will be dressed to kill.

Glitter Galore

Glitter or all over sequin detailing can never go out of fashion.  It has been a style trend of every decade where only the cut & the fit of the outfit have changed. But if you would like to work this trend, see to it that the accessories are kept to the minimal.

Summer Fun

Short or Knee-length dresses were the dress code for women during the daytime at Cannes. For morning photocall, floral prints, pastels or bright summer colors were a prominent feature. So do shop for flirty summer dresses and pair them with Mary Janes or peep toe pumps in softer colors.

We Love Vintage

This year the Cannes Film Festival 2012 paid a tribute to Marilyn Monroe who has been a legend when it comes to vintage style.  Vintage hair, jewelry and the gowns reflected the classic 1950s & 60s Hollywood era.
